Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Huntingdon House School is a specialist setting supporting young people with a range of additional educational needs.

Our students will have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and may experience needs related to:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition

  • Speech, language and communication difficulties

  • Cognitive and learning needs

  • Specific learning difficulties

  • Social, emotional and mental health needs

A Personalised Approach

Every student at Huntingdon House receives a highly personalised education programme designed around their individual needs, interests and strengths.

Students learn in very small groups, allowing staff to build strong relationships and provide the level of support each child requires. In some circumstances, one-to-one teaching may also be provided.

Each student is supported by a Lead Teacher, who works closely with the student, their family and other professionals to monitor progress and ensure that learning opportunities are tailored to their development.

Supporting the Whole Child

We believe education should support the whole child. Alongside academic learning, we also focus on:

  • emotional wellbeing

  • communication skills

  • social development

  • independence and life skills

Our school environment includes spaces designed to support students’ needs, including calm working areas and sensory spaces where students can regulate emotions and work comfortably.

We work closely with families, local authorities and external professionals to ensure every student receives the support they need to thrive.
