Admissions

Huntingdon House School provides specialist education for young people aged 10–16 whose needs have not been fully met within mainstream or other special educational settings.

Students are referred to the school by their Local Authority, and all students will have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Our Admissions Process

We operate an admissions process rather than an entry test. The aim of this process is to ensure that Huntingdon House is the right environment for each child and that we can successfully meet their needs.

The admissions process usually includes:

  1. Initial discussion with the referring Local Authority to review the student’s needs and EHCP.

  2. A visit by school staff to the child’s current school or home environment, where possible.

  3. A visit to Huntingdon House for the student and their family to meet staff and see the school.

  4. A taster period, allowing the student to experience the school environment and allowing staff to assess how best to support them.

If the placement is successful, the student will be offered a permanent place and a personalised transition timetable may be introduced to help them settle comfortably into school life.

We work closely with families and local authorities throughout the admissions process to ensure that every student is supported from the very beginning of their journey with us.
