For the Parents

At Huntingdon House School, we are dedicated to ensuring that our curriculum not only prepares students for future education, employment or training but also shapes them into resilient, caring and culturally aware citizens who understand their role in society.

Preparation for Future Success

Our curriculum focuses not only on academic achievement but also on broader development, fostering confidence, independence and resilience in our students. We equip them with the knowledge and skills to navigate the challenges of the digital world, teaching them about online and offline risks and promoting safe and healthy relationships.

Subject Leadership and Knowledge

While our school size may limit the availability of specialist teachers, we strive to provide them, particularly for core subjects. Non-specialists receive relevant training and support through networking and CPD specific to teaching and learning. Subject leads are responsible for planning, delivery, assessment and monitoring of their areas, ensuring quality teaching, learning and engagement. They conduct standardisation and moderation regularly and contribute to subject-related policies, providing training in their specialisation for consistency across the school.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Complying with legislative and best practice requirements, we meet the special educational needs of individuals. We provide resources and opportunities aligned with individuals' requirements and involve external agencies when necessary. For students with EHCPs, we monitor and evaluate objectives, setting improvement targets informed by EHCP objectives and reviewing half-termly.

Equal Opportunities

Our curriculum ensures equal access and opportunities for all individuals. We adapt it to meet the needs, aspirations and abilities of each student, stretching the most able, addressing gaps and facilitating learning for those with SEND needs.

Our curriculum provides challenge and stretch for all individuals. For those with exceptional ability or talent, we offer additional resources and opportunities tailored to their expertise, including tutoring, advanced courses and specialised activities.

Therapeutic Approach

We employ a therapeutic approach to support emotional literacy, positive relationships and coping strategies. Reflection, target setting and alternative methods are emphasised to help individuals regulate emotions and behaviours.

Assessment of Impact

We measure the impact of our curriculum through various means, including annual EHCP reviews, termly PEP meetings, subject-specific assessments, accreditation outcomes and standardised assessments in English, Maths and ICT. Holistic evidence is gathered through workbooks, ASDAN evidence files, formative assessments and coursework tracking.

Continuous Evaluation

Through ongoing assessment and evaluation, we continually monitor the effectiveness of our curriculum design and delivery. This enables us to demonstrate the progress our students make and ensures that our curriculum remains impactful and responsive to their needs.
